About SYX.GG
So here's a thing nobody tells you
I climbed from Diamond to Master on builds the meta said were bad.
Mostly Leona. Off-meta items, weird pairings, stuff that made my duo go "what are you doing." But the games kept ticking up. And the reason wasn't that I was some 4000-IQ genius. I'm a data scientist who plays support too much. I just had a habit of digging through the numbers nobody bothers to read, and every so often the numbers were screaming about a combo that nobody was running.
That's the whole reason syx.gg exists. I wanted other people to be able to find their own edge the same way, instead of copy-pasting whatever the streamer ran last night.
You never play one item
Every stats site does the same thing. They show you an item's win rate, all by itself, one flat number, and then they call it a day.
But come on. You don't play one item. You play a build. Items win or lose together, the same way a movie isn't its lead actor, it's the whole cast bouncing off each other. A component that's mid alone can be a monster next to the right second buy. And the flat-number sites will never tell you that, because they literally aren't doing the math.
So that's what syx looks at. Which items, runes, summoner spells and champions actually click together.
The headroom thing
Okay, this is the part I'm proud of.
It's easy to point at two strong items and go "wow, 54% together." Of course they're 54%. They'd do that in their sleep. That tells you nothing. So instead of the raw combined number, syx measures headroom: how much extra win rate a pairing wrings out of the margin that's actually left to win. Two already-busted items hitting 54% score low. A combo that punches way above what each piece does alone scores high. That's the signal you want.
Tiers aren't raw win rate either. They're z-scores, basically how many standard deviations a thing sits above or below the average. So an S doesn't mean "above 51%." It means statistically weird, in a good way. Standout.
And combos get a label so you don't have to squint: god-tier, hidden gem (mediocre alone, scary together), niche, and trap. Watch the traps. They look totally fine and quietly lose you the game.
Where the numbers come from
Ranked Solo Queue match data, current patch. Rebuilt every single patch, because the second Riot touches a number, synergies move with it. A list from three patches ago is a museum exhibit.
And anything with too few games gets thrown out. There's a sample-size floor, so a pairing that went 4-1 in five games doesn't get to lie to you. You're reading signal, not coin flips.
What this won't do for you
It's a map. Not a cheat code.
The data points you at builds worth trying on your champ, in your lane. It does not press the buttons for you. You still have to play the thing, miss the spell, learn the matchup, all of it. A tier list is where you start looking, not the final word on anything. I found Leona by treating it that way, and honestly that's the most I can hand you. The rest is yours.
